While you may be ready to arrive in Puerto Escondido for some fun in the sun, you may also want to know a few important details about this area. After all, you never know when you will need to head to the store, venture out to explore via bus, or even need to be seen by the doctor. Plus, these are all things you must know when you decide that Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca is going to be your new home. There are many ways to get around Puerto Escondido, Mexico. You can choose to take a taxi, colectivos, or a bus. The cost of a taxi is quite reasonable. If you are simply going to a destination in town, the fare should be around 35 pesos. Colectivos are shared taxis, and they are much cheaper. You can take one of those, or ride the bus, for around 8 pesos.
If you want to reach destinations outside of Puerto Escondido Oaxaca, you will need to either rent a car or hire a driver for the day.
You can also rent a scooter for your time in Puerto Escondido. There are a few different scooter rental companies you can choose from. Motopuerto and Scooter Rental in Puerto Escondido are two wonderful options. If you need to have a scooter delivered to you, then Kooks on Wheels is the scooter rental company that will fit your needs.
Walking around Puerto Escondido is safe most of the time. You will want to walk with at least one other person and stay away from the beach at night. It is also best to make sure you are not carrying around a lot of money or valuables. If a person doesn’t think you have anything to steal, you will be much safer. If you are unsure about the area you are walking in, it is always safer to take a taxi, bus, or colectivos.
Super Chedraui (also called Super Che)
One of the best places to go food shopping in Puerto Escondido is going to be Super Chedraui. But this is only if you are looking for specific international products. The cost of food items at this store are higher than all the other stores in the area. The good news is that Super Chedraui has air conditioning and that does make for a better shopping experience.
Aurrera
Aurrera carries the most basic products and is way cheaper than Super Chedraui. While you can purchase what you will need to make most meals, you won’t be able to get those specialty ingredients you may be wanting. Or you may find yourself substituting one ingredient for another. This store also doesn’t have any air conditioning, which can make shopping a little uncomfortable on hot days.
Market Zicatela
There are approximately one hundred shops open within Market Zicatela. Each shop offers something different. But you will find all sorts of fruits, vegetables, cheeses, breads, fish, meat, and other foods as you wander around. Either before or after you do your shopping, you will want to stop in one of the fabulous restaurants to get a bite to eat. You can dine on some wonderful foods, which are made using fresh ingredients from the market, as you enjoy the views of Playa Zicatela.
Benito Juarez Market
It is all about the Mexican Experience when you decide to do your shopping at the Benito Juarez Market. This is an excellent spot for picking up all types of locally grown foods. You will pay a little more for produce and other food items at this market in Puerto Escondido, but the higher quality is worth the higher price tags. This is another market where you can dine at either the covered food court or near one of the food stalls.
Puerto Verde
Puerto Verde is one of the only places where you can find organic foods in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. The food comes from a local ranch. The produce is harvested three times a week to ensure it is fresh when it is purchased. Puerto Verde not only provides organic produce, but you can also find organically raised pork and lamb products.

Ocean Clinic
In Puerto Escondido, Mexico, there are plenty of doctors. However, any international travelers will want to visit Ocean Clinic if they have any health concerns. This clinic offers both general medicine and cosmetic procedures. Plus, they can create international bills, so insurances can be charged. Dr. Eduardo Oropeza Zuñiga, who goes by Dr. Oz, is the head doctor at this clinic.
Ocean Clinic is located in front of The Zicatela Wave on Calle del Morro. They are open Monday through Saturday from ten in the morning until seven in the evening.
Physiotherapist
Magda Jordaan is one of the best physiotherapists in Puerto Escondido. Her practice focuses on sports injuries, lung and sinus issues, and orthopedics. While she utilizes many different techniques, dry needling is her specialty. Magda has quite a busy practice, so you must make an appointment to be seen.
Hospital
When you are in need of hospital services in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, you will want to head over to Angel Del Mar. This is a medical surgical hospital, so any need you have will be met if you are a patient there. You will find this hospital at Sixth North Corner First East in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.
Dentists
Mario Godinez is one of the dentists in Puerto Escondido. He is an excellent dentist, but he does charge more for his services. If you are looking for a more affordable dentist, Dr. Xochi is a good choice.

Javier Beltran is one of the better veterinarians in Puerto Escondido. He has all the machines a vet needs to run required tests and imaging. However, the use of those machines are expensive. That means the bill will be more expensive too.
Dr. Guillermo is another vet in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. This is another wonderful vet who makes house calls too. While he doesn’t have all the machines, he does perform all the basic services on animals.

There are many places to go shopping in Puerto Escondido. Azulea is over at La Punta de Zicatela. It is an expensive boutique that offers boho style clothing like dresses, shorts, and bikinis. Volt is another store that is worth checking out for both men’s and women’s clothing.
If you have extra time on your hands, you must visit Trapos del Angel to do some shopping. It is located on the highway before you reach Rinconada. This store has new clothes, but also secondhand clothing that is still in good shape. This store is quite large, and it will take you a long time to really search through the racks.
